WHAT MATTERED

Blinds are about privacy. What you can’t see. Yet most marketing in the category focuses only on what you can see: product, finish, and price. So, to differentiate Taylor Blinds & Shutters in a cluttered, low-interest category we created something that people would seek out, while still enable a relevant connection back to the brand.

INSIGHTS

History is full of lesser-known, often hidden stories about well-known figures where the facts have been overlooked, edited out, or simply forgotten. This fuelled an idea with a powerful parallel to the product itself; what’s concealed may be more interesting than what’s visible.
“THE DERRICK TEAM IS A TIGHT GROUP OF TALENTED PEOPLE WHO DELIVER GREAT WORK WITH AGILITY AND EXPERT CRAFT.”

James McKay, National Head Sales & Marketing, Taylor Blinds & Shutters

BRAND JOURNEY

Up until this point, we had relied heavily on a strategy that led with Taylor’s products, using creative advertising to entertain as well as inform our audience (such as our “Find a use for…” campaign). But, with Blind History, we turned Taylor Blinds & Shutters into a content-led storyteller, one that sparks curiosity and invites discovery. By owning this distinctive narrative space and the digital media ecosystem around it, the brand moved from selling blinds to creating intrigue around what’s hidden.

OUR SOLUTION

Fortunately for us, Taylor’s MD was an avid history buff. And so, we did what modern advertising scoffs at; we put our client in the ads. We created Blind History, a podcast uncovering the lesser-known, surprising facts about history’s most famous figures. Content that people would actively choose to listen to, not be interrupted by.

BLIND HISTORY PODCAST SERIES

Weekly episodes were supported by a continuous stream of thumb-stopping executions across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and web platforms, each teasing these lesser-known historical facts to drive engagement and listening.

PLATFORM-NATIVE STORYTELLING

Every piece of content was tailored to its environment, from short, provocative social posts to longer-form YouTube content. This ensured relevance and maximised interaction across channels. Rather than interrupting the content, the brand lived naturally within it, linking the idea of hidden histories to the role of blinds in everyday life. We introduced promotional mechanisms, including offers and calls-to-action, ensuring that Blind History didn’t just build awareness for Taylor but also drove measurable business outcomes, directly creating sales and deeper conversation with the brand.

IMPACT

Blind History transformed Taylor Blinds & Shutters from a functional supplier of window coverings into a brand people actively engaged with, proving that even the most understated categories can earn attention by revealing what others don’t. Blind History successfully ran for 5 seasons by popular demand and demonstrated a direct influence on sales and customer enquiries.
